This month we’ve been taking our cues from nature, looking at seasonal growth and change as it relates to your work life and career. And as the first quarter of 2018 comes to an end, it’s a good time to examine your goals to see if you are still growing and changing in the direction you intend. Look back at your New Year’s resolutions (remember those?) and use your internal GPS to see if you need to recalculate your path. Here are some questions to prompt your thinking.

1-Even though I set my goals back in January, am I still generally heading in the right direction to meet them? Where have I been successful, so far, and how did I do it? Make some brief notes to yourself to see if you can find a pattern. Everyone’s method for meeting goals is different but when you look at your progress, you may find you’ve developed some useful habits that will help you continue.

2-If I’ve veered way off the path, or quit my goals altogether, what happened? Are my goals still important enough to me to continue and do I need to recalculate the route? We can do all the planning we like but sometimes life happens otherwise. Now is the time to see if your goals are still meaningful or if they need to be changed or shelved for another time.

3-If some, or all, of them are still important, what one, small thing can I do today, this week, this month (or right now) that will move me closer to what I want? What one tiny step can I take? Maybe you could revise a sentence or two of your resume or start research on one company you’re interested in. Small steps, done consistently, will take you far.

Growth and change involve making adjustments along the way. Take a moment to ask yourself if you’re heading in the right direction and check to see where you are along the way. Remember to celebrate the progress you’ve made so far and then carry on, one step at a time.
