All the planning in the world is useless unless you work your plan. You can make lists and plans to organize yourself and increase your productivity but nothing happens if you don’t actually focus on the work and projects you’ve identified.

Emilie Wapnick, in her book, “How To Be Everything”, offers a beyond-simple approach called “The Pomodoro Technique”. She credits the story and idea to Francesco Carillo who owned a tomato-shaped (“pomodoro”) kitchen timer. It goes like this:

1-Set your kitchen timer for 25 minutes and work on one project. Focus. No distractions.

2-Take a 5-minute break.

3-Repeat steps 1 and 2. When you have finished 4 “pomodoros”, take a 25-minute break.

That’s it! Sounds so simple. Most powerful, yet do-able, techniques usually are. This is but one very small section in her insightful book about creating a life with many interests and finding ways to enjoy them all.  Why not try the Pomodoro Technique today?
