We are often reminded, and with good reason, about the benefits of exercise. We are encouraged to move, to stand at our desks and stretch, to take the stairs. Many of us use reminders on our phones, watches, or the good old-fashioned post-it note that help us to remember to stop work, stand up, and take a break.

But what if you could multiply the benefits of moving around by taking it outside? Spring weather permitting, why not spend your break or lunch hour on a nice walk outdoors in nature, and in natural light? “We benefit cognitively and psychologically from having trees, bodies of water and green spaces to look at”, according to Florence Williams in her book, “The Nature Fix”.

Just a short walk around the block will benefit your health and mood, not to mention igniting sparks of creativity and inspiration. “Even short exposure to nature can make us more creative, healthier, more civic-minded, and less-stressed”, says Williams.

Working through a vexing problem at the office? A stroll outside can help you come up with solutions. Creating a new design or writing copy? Taking a walk clears your mind so that creative juices flow. Take advantage of your time away from work to get outdoors and enjoy our beautiful Bay Area weather! You’ll return to your work energized and inspired.
