A great conversation can be the key to many opportunities, personally and professionally. Conversation is an art that many struggle with for a variety of reasons. By honing your conversational skills, you can become a master of any social situation.

Step one is simple, put yourself out there! We all know this part can be the most daunting and we have all struggled with it at some point. Just remember to relax, breathe and walk up to the person you want to speak to with confidence. Always remain polite, shake their hand and introduce yourself.

Step two is key; know the right questions to ask to get the conversation going. Some simple questions are “How do you know the host?” or “Have you been here before?” Utilize the setting to frame the questions. These questions will help break the ice.

The most important thing to remember when approaching anyone is to show confidence with a firm handshake and to always remember his or her name. The goal is to create a quick bond that will make all parties involved feel comfortable and engaged.
