Great leaders all have similar characteristics. They are not afraid to reach out to others for advice, they understand they can’t know everything, and they understand that one of the best ways to learn is from the experiences of others. To start, her are 3 leadership tips that top experts believe will help you grow into a trusted leader.

Be human, not a robot! A robot will never be capable of showing emotion. We have been taught over the years that there is no room for emotion in the workplace; however, I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. When I kept a wall up and kept my emotions to myself my employees didn’t believe I cared about them and their well being. Once I learned to show a bit of emotion I started to connect with my employees on a personal level. You don’t need to be best friends, however it is important to show that you are “human”. People truly connect on a personal level versus a business level. When they feel you care about them they will care about you and as a result want to give a 100% in the workplace.

Develop self-awareness. Leaders become great by growth and evolution. In order to grow and evolve one must be self-aware. True leaders are open, confident, and real. They are aware of where they struggle, where they need improvement, and they are not ashamed to admit that they have faults. A true leader isn’t arrogant, and never leads through fear, blame, or ego.

Have a clear vision. I have seen too often where companies have a great product, but their leadership team has no real vision for the future. A leader knows what their vision is and communicates it clearly to their team. Leaders also know that visions can always change. An adaptable leader is clear and open to things as they evolve, and this helps employees stay focused on the tasks at hand.
