The interview is finished and you feel great (and relieved!). You were prepared with solid answers and questions, and you managed to calm your jangled nerves long enough to get through it! Now what?  Carry that good feeling post-interview by remembering these 4 tips.

Say thanks. Thank the interviewers, including the recruiter, via email. If the company won’t give out each person’s email address, ask the recruiter or hiring manager to forward your thanks to the team. If you prefer, send a hand-written note. It’s more of a personal touch.

Ask. Before ending your interview, ask when you should follow up. Find out who to contact and their preferred method of communication (phone call, email, text). Ask when a decision is expected but don’t hound the recruiter. They often have little influence over the timing of hiring decisions.

Inform. Out of courtesy, let the recruiter know if you have another job offer.

Ask again. If you are turned down for the job, but feel the hiring team was positive about you, ask to be considered for other positions at the company. Don’t be rude or act overly disappointed. Maintain a professional attitude so they remember you in a positive light.

If you do get the offer, congratulations! Your good manners were helpful during the interview process and will continue to pay off as a new employee.
